About the Park

Blue River Parkway is located on 2,255 acres. It borders the Big Blue River from Swope Park south to the southern end of Jackson County.


This multi-faceted parkland features many amenities, including several miles of multi-use trails popular for mountain biking. Other highlights include:
  • Alex George Wetland
  • 122nd & Blue River Road Soccer Complex
  • Remote Controlled Flying Field (Minor Park)
  • Blue River Glade
  • Hiking Trails
  • Horse Riding Area
  • Picnic Area
  • Shelter Houses

Blue River Mountain Bike Trails

  • 24 total miles; varying degrees of difficulty and challenge
  • Trail segments go between Bannister Road south to Blue Ridge Blvd. 

Blue River Glades Nature Trail

  • Steep climb of 80' to the 1.2 mile loop
  • 80th Street and Blue River Road (Park on road shoulder)

Blue River Greenway Trail

  • Trailhead at Alex George Wetland (108th & Blue River Road)
  • Connects to Indian Creek Trail at the confluence of Indian Creek and the Blue River
  • 2.5 miles

Eddy Ballentine Trail

  • Trail head 500' south of Glades Trail on Blue River Road.
  • Connects to Blue River Glades Trail, forming a loop trail.

Mountain Bike Trails

The Urban Trail Company developed and maintains a network of 9 miles, single track mountain bike trails between Blue Ridge Extension and Red Bridge Road.  Visit and click on Blue River Trails 
  • Trail head at 118th and Lydia.
  • Connects to Blue River Glades Trail, forming a loop trail.
  • Trails extend from Red Bridge Road to 139th Street.
